Cancer Support

Since the presence of cancer represents a failure in the immune system, our approach at Fratellone Medical Associates is to evaluate and strengthen the patient’s immune system in its entirety. We focus on a variety of factors that impact the immune system, such as:

Cancer Treatment and Support in New York CityThe practice provides support treatments for many types of cancer, especially colon, breast, lung and prostate cancers. Patients include those who are preparing to start chemotherapy and/or radiation; others who have already finished a conventional course of chemotherapy and/or radiation; and those with a history of cancer who want to prevent recurrence.

When meeting with a patient with cancer, we discuss traditional treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. Then we ask whether he or she is currently utilizing alternative or complementary approaches. We also discuss nutritional supplements, detoxification and psychological issues. Our immune-system strengthening treatment program includes:

Cancer Support: An Individualized Dietary Program

When diagnosed with cancer, an individual must almost always make dietary changes. Since not all cancers are curable, lifetime remission is the goal of any treatment protocol, and that requires a lifelong commitment to good nutrition.

Cancer cells can only feed on simple sugars, meaning that a diet low in simple sugars is crucial. That means no refined sugars, fructose (other than naturally occurring fructose in fruits and vegetables), often listed as high fructose corn syrup on the ingredients list of beverages and processed foods, are permitted. Likewise, no foods with a high glycemic index (GI) are permitted. Nor are artificial sweeteners acceptable as substitutes.

Conventional meat and dairy products typically contain hormones, which can precipitate the growth of some cancers. Digesting meat requires digestive and pancreatic enzymes, thus depleting enzymes necessary to bolster the immune system. Eat only small amounts of organic meats, poultry and dairy products.

Cancer Support: An Individualized Nutritional Supplement Program

Patients with impaired immune system need a balance between free radicals and antioxidants. Cancer has been associated with an elevated level of free radicals relative to antioxidants, which are capable of inactivating free radicals. It has been shown that increasing serum levels of some of these antioxidants through supplementation may reduce the incidence of cancers. Our treatment includes high amounts of herbs and antioxidants such as coenzyme Q10, grapeseed extract, beta-carotene, vitamin E, vitamin C, germanium sesquioixde, N-acetyl cysteine, L-glutathione and a bioflavonoid complex.

Mushroom extracts derived from the mycelia, or budding, stage of the mushroom are also recommended. Unlike the fruiting stage, the budding stage ensures the highest level of biological and biochemical activity. Mushroom extracts increase NK (natural killer activity) activity, T-cells and B-cells. The extracts also promote your own natural protection of interferon, which enables the body to recognize the genetic codes of pathogens, and destroy them.

Other oral megadoses of vitamins used include:

An oral supplementation program will also include herbs, such as:

Cancer Support: Intravenous Nutritional Supplementation

We agree with the Linus Pauling, M.D., in the efficacy of mega-doses of vitamin C. Our intravenous treatment is individualized for various types of cancer using 50 to 200 grams of vitamin C. Because high doses of vitamin C can be irritating to the gastrointestinal system, some patients opt for the placement of a permanent catheter. In addition to our vitamin C protocol we use intravenous L-glutathione on a regular basis.

The Health Benefits of Photoluminescence

Photoluminescence, also known as ultraviolet irradiation of blood (UVIB) and extracorporeal photophoresis, is an important tool in detoxifying the body. Light and health have always gone together. For centuries, mankind instinctively knew that sunlight was beneficial. The term photoluminescence comes from “photo,” referring to light, and “luminescence,” referring to the emission of light. Ultraviolet light has long been used to disinfect and this ability to kill infectious organisms is the most useful quality of ultraviolet light therapy. But ultraviolet light also stimulates the immune system and various enzyme systems, making it useful in treating cancer. The results can be remarkable.

When a small quantity of blood is treated through photoluminescence, the body’s defenses are marshaled to destroy all invading organisms whether they are viral, as in cancer, hepatitis and HIV; fungal as in Candida; and bacterial, as in Mycoplasma and Chlamydia. The therapy is also used to decrease C-reactive protein, which, when elevated increases the risk for atherosclerosis.

The Photoluminescense Process

The ultraviolet light treatment involves drawing a certain amount of blood, determined by the patient’s size and weight. As the blood passes through the sterile tubing and collected in a special quartz glass jar, it is exposed to ultraviolet light. The blood is then returned to the body, after a second exposure ultraviolet light.

Luminescence supports the treatment of cancer in the following ways:
