Adrenal Disorder Medical Treatment

Fratellone Medical Center provides adrenal disorder medical treatment in NYC.

Adrenal Gland FunctionsMost individuals do not know what is meant by the adrenal disorders. The adrenal glands are situated on top of the kidneys. These organs control our stress, weight control, depression, energy levels and anxiety. These glands mobilize the body’s response to every kind of stress. Of course, adrenal fatigue is caused by adrenal insufficiency that occurs when the glands cannot meet the demands of chronic stress. The output of the regulatory hormones to maintain balance get over stimulated. If you are one of these individuals with adrenal stress, then you probably consume coffee, tea, soda and white carbohydrates to generate energy especially in the morning. With adrenal fatigue, every organ and system of the body is affected. When a person is under stress, the body responds by releasing more stress hormones.

In order to discuss the adrenal system, we must discuss adaptogens. The word “adaptogens” was defined in 1947 by Dr. Nikolai Lazarev and later redefined in 1968 by Brekhman and Dardynov. These adaptogens help the adrenal glands respond more effectively to the excess stress hormones. These adaptogens support adrenal function by allowing the cells to have more energy and also prevent oxidative stress. Oxidative stress causes our bodies to age. These adaptogens have the ability to slow the aging process. Cortisol levels do not decrease with age like growth hormone, testosterone and DHEA. Cortisol levels, when increased, contribute to insulin resistance and thus obesity. Adapotogens are remarkable, natural substances that help the body adapt to stress, support the normal metabolic functions and help restore balance to the body. The adaptogens increase the body’s resistance to emotional, environmental and biological stress.

Some common herbal examples of adaptogens providing adrenal support are American gingseng, ashwaganda, astragalus, cordyceps, holy basil, licorice, reishi and rhodiola.

Testing
At Fratellone Medical Associates, we utilize a variety of testing to determine adrenal insufficiency. Using blood tests, we obtain serum (blood) levels of cortisol, testosterone and DHEA. We can also use saliva testing for all hormones including DHEA and cortisol. In addition, it is vital to test for the neurotransmitters such as serotonoin, dopamine, GABA, taurine, glycine, epinephrine and norepinephrine. We utilize a lab called Neuroscience. A serotonin deficiency (“the happy hormone”) can be an indicator of depression. It can be caused by consuming gluten grains as barley, rye, oats and wheat. The allergic response blocks the GALT system in the body. This is the gut associated lymphoid tissue, thus allowing the body not to absorb essential minerals and vitamins and decrease the production of these vital neurotransmitters. The body compensates by increasing epinephrine and norepinephrine, thus rendering the individual to anxiety and nervousness. Although we cannot administer these neurotransmitters, we can use the precursors known as amino acids to increase these vital neurotransmitter levels. We also utilize intravenous therapies to support your immune system and boost your adrenals glands.

Our approach at Fratellone Medical Treatment Center is to provide our patients for extensive ongoing conventional medical care, while providing the most effective integration with alternative treatments.
