FEBRUARY 18, 2020 HEAVY METALS

High levels of heavy metals have been linked to many problems. Some of these metals are linked to Parkinson’s Disease as Aluminum and mercury is linked to arrhythmia ( palpitations )

Finally the American Heart Association published a report that high levels of mercury and lead can cause increased levels of the low density lipoprotein , the bad cholesterol abbreviated LDL. Those with the highest level of lead were 56 % more likely to have a high cholesterol and 73 % more likely to have high cholesterol if they had a high mercury

This means to have your doctor do a blood test for these metals on your next blood test. If this isn’t high do not stop there. You can find an Integrative Physician / Functional Medicine MD like myself to do further testing. This can involve using a provoking agent DMSA or EDTA ( these are chelators) This test is done by Doctors Data in Chicago It requires a 6 hour or a 24 hour urine collection after talking the provoking agent. Some states with the USA still allow hair analysis for heavy metals

Screening for heavy metals should be part of a cardiovascular work up

FEBRUARY 17, 2020 HERBAL TREATMENT FOR LYME (Copy)

There are many herbs that can treat chronic Borreliosis. Chronic Lyme disease can weaken your immune system, ignite inflammation, squelch your energy, provoke pain, and trigger brain fog. It can also generate harmful free radicals, disrupt your mitochondria ( powerhouse of your cell ) and overwhelm your detox pathway. The conventional infectious disease physicians do NOT believe in chronic Lyme.

There are many different protocols that can be found in your on line search There is the Cowden protocol, Zhang protocol, and Desert Botanicals. I use some herb sin combination and some alone.

One herb I utilize is Artemisia annua. This is sweet wormwood. Artemisinin is the compound in Artemisia annua that has these anti parasitic effects. It also has powerful actions against the Lyme bacteria — including cyst forms. This herb is also active against Malaria caused by Plasmodia species. Since Borrelia causes much stress, this herb has many different anti oxidant properties.

One of the most well known herbs for Lyme is Cat’s Claw or Uncaria tomentosa Phytochemicals in cat’s claw bark may help regulate your immune function This herb is very effective for the aches and pains in your joints

  1. Hops ( Humulus lupulus)

  2. Valerian ( Valeriana officinales)

  3. Wild Yam ( Dioscorea villosa)

  4. Bogbean ( Menyanthes trifoliata)

  5. Lemon Balm ( Melissa officinales)

FEBRUARY 14, 2020 DYSPEPSIA

Upper gastrointestinal illness is a common problem that affects millions of people worldwide. There are many causes. Some of the illnesses are ulcers, gastritis. motility problems and Helicobacter pylori.

Most people have heard the use of peppermint oil and even deglychrrized licorice for the above conditions. There are studies on peppermint oil which is used most commonly for abdominal pain and irritable bowel syndrome. I utilize many therapies in my practice after a full work up ( history/physical and laboratory data)

I am fond of mixing 4-5 organic teas together and ask the patient to drin 1-2 times a day for 10 days. The blend is called GUTSY which is available at Botanical Bounty in New York City.

There are many other remedies. I want to mention drinking the fresh juice from the whole plant of Bocapa monniera. It is also known as Brahmi . This is used commonly in Ayurvedic practices. It has bene shown that Brahmi promotes mucosal defenses via enhanced mucin secretin and glycoprotein This therapy is very effective

Do you suffer from mood swings? Have you ever related your mood swings to what you are eating ? The most common causes of nmood swings IU see are food allergies, unstable blood sugar and the presence of a yeast infection. We do know that ingestion of alcohol can lead to mood swings as well as daily use of caffeinated beverages as coffee.

Many individuals use a daily juice in the morning as celery juice . I have found that you can make your own Mood Juice in your Vita Mix.

In the Vita Mix/Blender add the following:

  1. Shredded one large radish

  2. 3 ripe tomatoes

  3. 1/4 cucumber peeled and washed
