APRIL 1, 2021 THE NATURAL APPROACHES

As i am very familar with conventional medical treatments I am equally able to discuss natural approaches and remedies. For example while many practitioners use antibiotics, inhalers, etc for the common flu, allergies and sinuses, I use herbs, essential oils , homeoathy and suggest acupuncture.

I utilize essential oils for many individuals with allergies and sinus conditions. I love essential oil of eucalpytus or cloves. I persoanlly use lemongrass . Many practitioners have used Thieves oil which is a combination of six essential oils, with cinnamon and rosemary being included in the 6. Lemon essential oil is used as an anti viral and anti bacterial . Rosemary oil is good for the respiratpory tract

For alergies I usually recommend nettle leaf tea and a bioflavinoid called quercitin. I always do allergy testing for both environmental and food . I use Ig E for environmental and Ig G for food allergies. For cough I use elecampe and hore hound. Many think of elederberry. I included it in a tea but it is usually not the main ingredient

MARCH 31, 2021 MILK THISTLE

I think most people think of Milk thistle as an herb just for the liver. There are numerous studies on the benefits of this herb. One of the twin epidemics, diabetes can be helped with milk thistle It does support healthy sugar levels and insulin sensitivity.

Millions of consumers use this herb to support their liver, especially if consuming alcohol. It supports liver health. One of the most common uses of milk thistle is to treat liver problems.

Other uses include:

  • Promotes skin health. ...

  • Reduces cholesterol. ...

  • Supports weight loss. ...

  • Reduces insulin resistance. ...

  • Improves allergic asthma symptoms. ...

  • Limits the spread of cancer. ...

  • Supports bone health.

MARCH 30, 2021 IT IS NOT OVER YET

Dont be so quick to take your mask off—the pandemic is not over yet. The numbers are rising. There still is a vulnerable group not vaccinated — those that are less than 50 years in age and those that do not want to get vaccinated. There is an expected surge in cases as state officials lessen the restrictions. I think this is a bad idea

There are 4 vaccines on the market There are side effects and reported deaths . In the United States we have not had the Astra Zeneca vaccine. This is available in Europe and in other countries It has been reported that this vaccine is responsible for 77 % more adverse effects and 25 % mroe deaths. This was reported by 19 European countries- There have been reports of deadly blod clots. It reminds me of the deaths in individuals in the emergency room at the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020. At an Oslo Sweden Hospital the death of 3 individuals from blood clots has been reported caused by the Astra Seneca vaccine WE do not have Astra Seneca approved int he United States. There needs to be clarification about this vaccine as more is revealed

I feel it is ineviatable that no matter what age ( exception children and infants ) — you will get vaccinnated. Currently it is your choice. I do not know how long that will last. Being vaccinated and then actiing iresponsibly by not wearing a mask is WRONG. From my readings and resdearch there is another virulent strain sweeping across the United States This will be the fourth surge to cause deaths. Be Responsible

MARCH 29, 2021 AMUR CORK TREE

I think this herb is fascinating ! I haven’t come across this herb for a long time. It is the Amur Cork tree. Animal studies with this tree have effects benefiting the neuroprotection for the brain. The studie smost interesting is protecting dopamine levels.

Phellodendron amurense is a species of tree in the family Rutaceae, commonly called the Amur cork tree. It is a major source of huáng bò, one of the 50 fundamental herbs used in traditional Chinese medicine.

Scientific research has also shown that phellodendron bark acts as an inhibitor of the enzyme MAO-B If you inhibit MAO-B studies shown it may improve lifespan. Since dopamine is the neurotransmitter in Parksinson’s disease it will interesting to see the effects of this group of patients.

Fascinating tree …

MARCH 26, 2021 VACCINATION FRENZY

There is much controversary and fear surrounding the vaccination. The age criteria is now 50 years old and above in New York. Many have had the vaccine. Many have no choice We know there are reported injuries and even death with the vaccines. These have been documented and reported

The archdiocese called the J and J vaccine “ morally compromised”: since it uses aborted cell lines./ The same will be true of Astra Zeneca when approved as it contains fetal cell lines. Some clergymen disagree wuth the above. I haven’t heard what the Vatican states about this matter. So you should get the other two available- Pzifer and Moderna. There are with their own problems.

Some are arguing that the vaccines do not meet medical or legal disclaimers and not vaccines. Statements suggest these are gene therapy. This is a true statement. WE do not know the long term effects of this vaccine. But some of us need it- the elderly, the immunocompromised, and the first line workers as doctors, nurses etc. Some suggest the long term effects could be Al;zheimer’s or even Amyotrophic lateral Sclerosis ( ALS) These vaccines may induce TDP-43 and FUS to fold their pathologic confirmations. This information has been cited and is a true statement

There is a moral dilemna for some individuals. There is a medical concern by some individuals. WE all do what we must. I am NOT judging . WE don’t have a choice in this matter. If you want life to return to some ‘ normalcy’ you must get the vaccine. Yet this is your individual choice and I respect your decision.

MARCH 25, 2021 CISTACHE

This is an herb you rarely hear about or discussed. Cistanche is a worldwide genus of holoparasitic desert plants in the family Orobanchaceae. They lack chlorophyll and obtain nutrients and water from the host plants whose roots they parasitize Cistanche health benefits include enhancing immunity, sexual health, antioxidation, and neuroprotection. It's known for its anti-aging properties.

There were studies of this herb being effective as an anti aging herb. Studies have been done on reducing vulnerability for infections and different cancers.

The anti aging effects involve the immune system and discussion of B and T cells. I have read studies of Cistanche in diseases like Alzheimer’s The study was 300 mg of herb 3 times a day for a year in compared to the placebo group. There was no shrinkage of the hippocampus in the herb group taking Cistanche versus placebo . There was better cognitive function with the herb group.

More studies like this need to be discussed. I have seen one study of this herb used in patients with osteoporosis.

MARCH 24, 2021 GLUCOSAMINE

This is a supplement that has been used for years. It is usually combined with chondroitin sulfate. Through the years glucosamine has been shown to relieve joint pain. Glucosamine is as effective as commonly used drugs as non steroidal like Advil ( or known as ibuprofen)

Glucosamine supports healthy cartilage and joint function. There are studies that show glucosamine eases joint medicines as good as conventional medicine. For me as an integrative cardiologist I want to mention that the regular use of glucosamine is associated with 22 % lower risk of cardiovascular death.

So many will ask what is the dose — I usually use 1,500 mg to 2,000 mg a day which is easily absorbed in the blood stream While most [people think of this supplement for joints, there are studies of a great benefit for the whole body.

MARCH 23, 2021 HAIR LOSS AND VITAMIN D

Who wants to start losing their hair ?

An article caught my attention that was published in International Journal of Dermatology. The study found that low or deficient Vitamin D levels and greater severity and premature onset of male pattern hair loss in young men

The study consisted of 50 healthy, controls and 50 men with premature androgenic alopecia. All the participants were 30 years in age or younger.

The results of the study did not surprise me. 86 % of men with hair loss were deficient in Vitamin D ( < 12 ng/ml ) and 14 % of the participants had levels at 12-20 ng/mL levels

The mean levels of Vitamin D were much lower in patients with premature loss of hair
