MAY 31, 2021 FOOT BATH FOR HEADACHES

We all have a secret for curing our own headaches. Yes there are many treatments available, both convntional and alternative. I have seen many remedies used. I used to rub Tuger Balm on my tension headache. There are many causes for headaches. Don’t think a food allergy can’t cauise a headache because it can

An old Egyptian remedy for a headache is the use of the herb, thyme. There are many uses for thyme. In my readings I have found a foot bath remedy for headaches. I have seen the following used

  1. One tablespopon of the essence of pine

  2. Four tablespoons oif thyme tea

  3. two tablespoons of powdered mustard seed

Place the herbs in lukewarm water ( not too hot) and soak your feet for 10 minutes. The fatigue, tension and even the headache will disappear.

Try it if you don’t have a headache It can be relaxing

MAY 28-30, 2021 HERBS AND THE ENDOCRINE SYSTEM

Throughout my career I had continuously read virociously . I love to learn new materials and re learn old material. I have also discussed various teachersm colleagues and mentors. I cam across a book on my shelves entitled The Endrocrine System for the Herbalist by Jody Noe, ND MMS. Not only is she a colleague but also a friend with a tremendous amount of herbal knowledge . She is a fabulous writer. Our ties also are in the field of oncology. She was an adjucnt professor at the University of Brodgeport School of Naturopathic Medicine. By the time I became an adjunct professor at the school, she had left the university However I started to teach Integrative Oncology in addition to other courses. I used her authored book, Textbook of Naturopathic Integrative Oncology.

I always have found in writins and teachings to be detailed yet explainable and teachable ( if these are words ) She is an independent practitioner in Rhode Island ( close to the Connecticut border). I refer to her as she is an expert in the use of CBD and THC . This leads me to her third book, Medicinal Cannabis Experiences & Protocols- A Cannabis Companion Handbook . I belive and encourage all herbal and natgurpathic students to get her books for their personal library. You also refer back to her books for protocols and explainations.

We both are instructors at the ArborVitae School of Medical Herbalism in New York. It always is a pleasure to see her at conferences.

MAY 27, 2021 POLLINATORS

Did you know that honeybees and bumblebees together pollinate almost 90% of the world’s plant population? Withour their pollination you would have a 1/3 less fruits and vegetables on your table.

Bee-friendly gardens are a great way to help nectar and pollen spread, and keep our world’s beautiful landscapes thriving!

There are many bee-friendly plants

Examples are Mountain Laurels, Hydragea, Coral Bells, and Butterfly Bushes

If you want to start a project ( it is never too late ) there are books on Pollinators. One of my favorites is

MAY 26, 2021 INFLAMMATION

Inflammation is a key word in medicine. The anti aging approaches to decreasing inflammation involve many modalities. Some of these modalities may be hot laser therapy, biomodulation with infrared pads, acupuncture, physical therapy, supplements/vitamins and herbs.

Inflammation is complex and mediated by the activation, production, secretion and activities of a host of cellular biochemicals. This could get very technical because it does involve enzyme reactions, tumor necrosis factor, cyclooxygenase pathways and probiotics.

Many individuals use over the counter anti-inflammatory agents to decrease inflammation. These OTCs have been linked to blocking choline in the brain and are now associated with Alzheimer's Disease.

The herbs I utilize for inflammation are green tea, ginger, tumeric and Boswellia. I also use white willow bark. I do not use one herb for inflammation but a complementation of many herbs.

For centuries Boswellia (Indian Frankincense) has been known to decrease inflammation.

Boswellia contains boswellic acids which act as the primary anti-inflammatory agent. This herb does a lot of down regulation of immunomodulators much like the pharmaceutical drugs. So why use drugs?

The answer is that you can make more money by manufacturing drugs than by growing and selling Boswellia herb. Lately, it ALWAYS seems to come down to the money when dealing with medicine.


MAY 25, 2021 MINDFULNESS

Do you practice mindfulness? Do you even know what that means. One definition is a mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique.

Recently I started reading a book by Dr Rochelle Calvert on a pathway to healing It is called Healing with Nature : Mindfulness and Somatic Practices to Heal from Trauma. This is the kind of book we need after this pandemic. She makes us each aware of the trauma we might have hidden or locked away.

The incredible point is to draw strenmgth from the environment or nature, It is a process and and an excellent process to underahnd somatic healing with nature and living into the aliveness with nature.

I practice mindfulness daily in my gardens in Connecticut. I practiced mindfulness when living in New York City on my terrace or at the park. II most enjoy practicing meditation and mindfulness near my bee hives. The sound of the bees centeres me

MAY 24, 2021 WHY AREN'T YOU LOSING WEIGHT



It is not enough to lose weight if you eat less and exercise more. You need to consider why you are eating so little and exercising so much, and you cannot lose weight nor an inch of your waist line. You need to start considering if something you are eating or drinking is causing inflammation in the body. This is almost always overlooked. This was taught to me years ago when working closely with Dr. Atkins. Food allergy testing is just as important as following the low carbohydrate, high protein lifestyle. Today, I have no specific diet for everyone. Every patient is an individual. It is not a diet but a change in a dietary lifestyle. When a patient eats food that causes inflammation it is more than just bloating or gas the individual will experience. Some patients do not even experience these reactions, but have joint pain, headaches,anxiety and skin problems. These individuals never connect that their food intake could be doing this to their body. Those who consume diet sodas have more body inflammation than most patients I see. Well - there is one exception--those who consume highly processed foods.


Last week I saw a patient with an autoimmune thyroiditis, called Hashimoto's thyroidits (inflammation of the thyroid) causing fatigue, weight gain, depression, hair loss, cold intolerance and constipation. She is taking some thyroid medication. None of her previous doctors have ever mentioned the association between gluten foods and autoimmune thyroidits. Most of her symptoms were related to anxiety, depression, apathy and loss. This is because she eats gluten. Not only does she eat gluten but she eats white bread. I do not know many people who still consume white bread like Wonder Bread. She does not have a food allergy to gluten. She has a food intolerance or sensitivity which is not as obvious as a food allergy. These food in tolerances or sensitivities can take up to 3 days to cause symptoms. These are the delayed reactions. This is why an IgG RAST food test must be done. You will not see these delayed reactions if you do an immediate or IgE food allergy test. These IgG food intolerances are a source of many of the chronic diseases as chronic joint pain, muscle aches, depression, anxiety and even eczema.

You must eat foods that are typically low in inflammation as these foods place less burden on your gastrointestinal system. These are typically foods that are low in sugar (or those with a low glycemic index). Glycemic index is how quickly the food will turn to sugar. Breads and pastas are foods with a high glycemic index. Fruits that are high in sugar are also not the best to eat. These fruits taste good but have low antioxidant potential. These fruits should be combined with fruits that are high in antioxidant potential and low in sugar. All berries, apples and pears are lower in sugar and high in antioxidant potential.

You need to change your dietary lifestyle. Yes it is great to remove these foods, but you must then repair and restore the gut lining. This is assisted by the increased intake of amino acids such as glutamine, theanine and taurine. You must take a probiotic (the good bacteria) as well as vitamin D. I am sure your vitamin D level is low if you have food intolerance or food sensitivities.

Yerterday was World Bee Day - May 20th These are five surprising things you might not know about nature's hardest working pollinators. As a beekeeper/apitherapist and Vice President of the American Apitherapy Society I feel I can talk about bees at length and at any time. I could write about bees every day Honeybees have changed my life in more ways than I could even describe.

All products of the beehive are used medicinally. This includes the pollen, the propolis, the royal jelly, the honey and of course the bee venom. These are scientific articles on the benefits of these products.

The American Apitherapy Society, Inc., a 501(c)(3) membership organization, was formed in New Jersey in 1989 as a reorganization of the North American Apiotherapy Society. Founded in 1978, the NAAS had contributed much to bee venom therapy research and education. However, in the years leading up to 1989 it became inactive as a result of inadequate funding, poor communication, and other limitations. As a result, a new organization was formed: the AAS. Officers and directors and advisors were Christopher M. Kim, M.D., president; James Belliveau, Ph.D., vice president; Harold Lenz, D.Sc., treasurer and acting secretary; Charles Mraz and Bradford Weeks, M.D., directors at large; and Ann W. Harman, advisor. The AAS’ mission was to promote and teach “the use of honeybee products to maintain and improve health, and to alleviate pain, suffering, and disability. Our Mission: Educate the public and health care community, about both the traditional and scientifically valid uses of Apitherapy.

An estimated 124 million Americans are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19. As of April 30, 2021, 3,837 died shortly after their COVID shots. That’s more than have died from all available vaccines combined from mid-1997 until the end of 2013 — a period of 15.5 years

Did you read about this ? I did not. It is the VAERS data More than 80 colleges and any number of employers are now implementing mandatory COVID vaccination

In 1976 we had the swine flu. One of my cousins developed Guillan Barre syndrome after his vacciantion shot. Others died. The U.S. government vaccinated 45 million people against pandemic swine flu. in 1976. The entire program was canceled after reports of just 53 deaths. So why isn’t their talk about the deaths from the COVID vaccine and stopping its vaccine

I read a lot of data ont he internet about the vaccine and the vaccine program. Dr. Peter McCullough, vice chief of internal medicine at Baylor University Medical Center and known for being one of the top five most-published medical researchers in the United States has made some important statements and the data will scare you. But the truth must be known.

He stated, “ The entire focus of our health agencies has been on masking, lockdowns and waiting for a gene therapy “vaccine.” The results have been devastating. Five months into the mass vaccination campaign, more than 10,000 in the U.S. and European Union have already died after getting the shots. Any other vaccine would have been pulled from the market by now.

YOU need to read the data. I understand if you were vaccinated. I was vaccinated. Prior to this vaccination I had not received a vaccine since 1975. I was playing and injored myself on a piuece of wood with a rusty nail. I got the tetanus booster shot in the hospital that afternoon.
