MARCH 23, 2026 HALITOSIS

Experiencing bad breath can be a distressing and often embarrassing hurdle in social situations Do you know which Golden Age of Hollywood actor had bad breath? It has been said that Clark Gable, The King had halitosis.

Bad breath can be eliminated by enhancing daily routines to incorporating specific foods into your diet, these strategies are both simple and effective.

Oral hygiene is the cornerstone of fresh breath. Brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and flossing at least once is essential in removing the food particles and plaque that can harbor bacteria, the primary culprits of bad breath. It’s not just about the frequency but also the technique I also believe in using a Waterpik I learned this from The Tooth Fairy , Sandra Senzon - my friend/colleague/dental guru I usually add one to two drops of an essential oil to the container of the Waterpik. Usually it is tea tree oil or cloves. Replacing your toothbrush every three to four months ensures that the bristles are effective in scrubbing away bacteria and food residue.

You absolutely must drink water Hydration plays a pivotal role in maintaining a healthy mouth and fresh breath. Saliva is your mouth’s natural defense against bad breath, as it helps wash away food particles and bacteria. When you’re dehydrated, saliva production decreases, leading to a dry mouth, which is a fertile ground for the bacteria that cause bad breath

Certain foods in the Lily Family must be avoided. These are Allium species- as garlic, onions and chives. The foods you eat can have a major impact on the air you exhale. These foods can linger on your breath long after your meal is over. These foods are absorbed into the bloodstream, transferred to the lungs, and affect the air you exhale. It’s not just about the immediate effect; these foods can continue to affect your breath for hours Eat lots of crunchy foods. Yesterday at a Memorial, I had lots of celery sticks and carrot sticks. Incorporating certain foods into your diet can be a delicious way to combat bad breath. Crunchy fruits and vegetables, such as apples, carrots, and celery, can act as natural toothbrushes. Eating these foods helps to remove food particles and bacteria from the teeth and gums, which can contribute to bad breath I also like herbs to freshen your breath- mint, and spearmint. Not only do these herbs freshen the breath, but they also offer additional health benefits, including anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties

MARCH 18, 2026 TO AVOID HUNGER

While many individuals are injecting SGLP2 today, there are foods that eliminate or delay hunger. Managing appetite is crucial for maintaining a healthy weight and overall wellness There are many foods that can do this. One of thew best are Apples.

Apples are a powerhouse of nutrients and particularly rich in dietary fiber. This fiber slows down digestion, resulting in a prolonged feeling of fullness. Eating an apple before a meal can significantly reduce overall calorie intake The next food that can help are Walnuts. Walnuts are a nutritious snack rich in omega-3 fatty acids, known for their role in promoting a feeling of fullness. Unlike other snacks that may lead to overeating, walnuts provide a sense of satisfaction that helps in controlling appetite

The third food is something I have weekly on an caesar or spinach salad. It is grilled chicken. Grilled chicken is a staple in many healthy diets, primarily due to its high protein content. Protein is known for its ability to provide lasting satiety, reducing the likelihood of snacking on high-calorie foods. Grilled chicken is not only filling but also low in fat and calories, making it an excellent choice for weight management

I have also seen the herb, berberine work very well. It has been tauted as the Natural Ozempic. By the way I rather suggest tirseptide rather than semaglutide as a SGLP2

MARCH 17, 2026 FOOD SENSITIVITIES

Chronic inflammation is the culprit of all diseases What insults your ‘gut’ or small intestines. It could be heavy metal intoxication, mold intoxication, chronic infections as EBV or even SIBO ( small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. It could be food sensitivities which is very common About 90 % of the time your food sensitivities match the foods you shouldn’t be eating based on your blood type. For example A type O blood type should not be having gluten and dairy. Those sensitivities will show up when this patient does a food sensitivity Ig G test Remember this is not a Ig E immediate sensitivity test It MUST be a Ig G test

By addressing food sensitivities through targeted testing and personalized dietary interventions, individuals can take a significant step toward reducing inflammation, improving gut health, and enhancing overall well-being

Your doctor should be doing this for you This is a tailored or individualized approach to a patient’s cause of his/her chronic inflammation Ask for food sensitivity testing, heacy metal testing and mold testing by Mosaic. You might even want to do a Vibrant Tick panel

Be pro active in your own health.

MARCH 16,2026 EARLY DETECTION FOR CANCER

As an integrative physician my office deals with patients with cancer quite a lot. We use many different tests to detect cancer

One of these tests is the Galleri early detection test. I have been using the test for some time But the results of a major study in England testing that hypothesis using the Galleri Multi-Cancer Early Detection (MCED) test just failed miserably.

In this study 142,000 healthy individuals age 50-77 conducted across the United Kingdom, patients underwent a Galleri blood test every year for 3 years. The intent was to detect early-stage (Stage I and II) cancer and provide earlier intervention before the cancers had spread.

The reality has proven quite different. The test failed to detect early cancer, falling short of a 20% reduction of Stage III and IV cancers, the study design’s statistical endpoint.

This is not surprising as a review of the Galleri DNA blood test’s sensitivity for detection in early-stage cancer has been known to be quite low, in the range of 15-20%. This has not prevented the company from selling the test to the public.

“This Study failed, end of story.”

This was evaluated and published in the Townsend Letter

MARCH 11, 2026 IT'S STILL WINTER

It is still winter till March 21 st ! We could even get a chance of snow . I wanted to discuss that you can still eat winter vegetables at this time of the year. It is important to do so due to protein and other nutrients you can obtain from ingesting them. Winter vegetables like spinach, potatoes, and Brussels sprouts provide modest protein, plus fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants that support overall health.

Hardy winter vegetables help boost protein intake while delivering nutrients that aid digestion, immunity, and heart health during colder months I love to eat grilled brussel sprouts with balsalmic vinegar Some out pieces of bacon I prefer without the bacon.

Eating spinach was something I learned as a child. Whether it was Popeye telling me on the television or my mother urging us to eat it — We did ! Spinach might not come to mind when you think of high-protein foods, but it offers more than 5 grams in one cup cooked. And it tastes delicious .

We know ore about mushrooms than we did when I was growing up. Though technically fungi, mushrooms are generally treated as vegetables. They also provide protein, with the exact amounts varying by type. For example, one cup of raw white mushrooms offers 2 grams of protein, while the same amount of raw portobello mushrooms has nearly 3 grams.

Mushrooms are also one of the best sources of ergothioneine (ERGO), a compound tied to brain health and protection against cognitive decline. I feel if add a cup of green tea when eating you get the EGCG which is the best antioxidant Mushrooms also contain Vitamin D which is essential to everyday health for heart, brain, and digestion.

Lastly we should discuss Parsnips. This is a vegetable I hardly ever eat unless someione else is cooking it. One cooked parsnip contains 2 grams of protein. The root vegetable is also high in vitamin C, vitamin K, zinc, copper, manganese, and pantothenic acid,

So don’t give up on winter just yet Until tomorrow…

MARCH 10, 2026 MUSHROOMS, MUSHROOMS MNUSHROOMS

Today, mushrooms are growing in popularity worldwide due to their nutritional properties and versatile uses in the kitchen. While annual consumption of mushrooms in the United States stabilized at an average of three pounds per person in the decade ending in 2015, the market has been growing steadily Not every individual like mushrooms, especially the medicinal ones. Mushrooms are tremendously nutritious, adding a wide range of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals to your diet.

There are many health benefits to eating mushrooms. Many have anti aging properties. In a 2011 study led by researchers at the University of Florida, participants who ate a four-ounce serving of shiitake mushrooms each day for four weeks had better-functioning gamma delta T-cells and reductions in inflammatory proteins. Mushrooms have anti cancer benefits with some studies suggesting a 64 % decrease in breast cancer in women that ate mushrooms In a 2016 animal study published in the International Journal of Molecular Science, researchers examined the effects on the brain of H. erinaceus, or Lion’s Mane, a species of edible and medicinal mushroom So start eating these mushrooms Mushrooms are rich in the amino acid ergothioneine, which has been associated with a lower risk for heart disease.

  1. Lion’s Mane

  2. Cordyceps

  3. Reishi

These are just a few. I prefer taking Host Defense formulated by Paul Stametts I love his My Community and Stametts-7. The best mushrooms around these days

There are no downsides to ingesting mushrooms Add to your diet

    Until tomorrow…

MARCH 9, 2026 CANCER

In the last ten years cancer is kiling ojur young Why is this? Six cancer types are rising faster in younger adults than in those who are older in at least five countries, a new study of global cancer incidence shows, and two types — colorectal and uterine — are becoming both more common and more deadly among the young

However some cancer have declined. Cervical cancer rates in young women have dropped dramatically in the United States since a vaccine for human pappilloma virus (HPV) became available. States with high vaccination rates have seen the biggest drop in cervical cancer

Today there are many cancer markers as CA 27-29 for breast cancer and CA 125 for ovarian cancer These are markers to be followed when you have already been diagnosed with the cancer But there are cancer tests to detect the cancer These are sophisticated tests as Galleri and Shield These test for splices of genes for certain cancers. The Shield test detects colon cancer. Bother of these tests are offered in our New York and Connecticut offices.

Cancer in my opinion is not always a killer. There are nutriceuticals and herbs that can support and help patients with cancer You as the patient should seek out these treatments

MARCH 2, 2026 HERBS TO PLANT

There are many good herbs to plant this spring I usually start mid April to plant them when the weather in the Northeast One of these herbs is Yarrow

Yarrow has been used for centuries to stop bleeding and heal wounds. Studies identify azulene in yarrow with genuine anti-inflammatory effects. It’s astringent, helps with fevers, and eases menstrual pain. If you are allergic to ragweed don’t use as it belongs to the Daisy family.

Another herb that is very safe and widely used is Calendula ( Marigold ) Widely used in skin remedies. Multiple studies show topical calendula accelerates wound healing. A 2019 review found it speeds inflammatory phase and tissue formation in acute wounds. Small trials show benefits for minor burns and radiation dermatitis. Traditionally used for cuts, sores, eczema, and dermatitis. I make a wonderful yarrow and calendula salve with arnica . .

Another herb I plane is Lavender It is famous for calming scent. Small studies suggest oral lavender oil or tea can relieve anxiety and mild depression. Lavender oil capsules reduced anxiety symptoms in trials. Aromatherapy benefits are subjectively reported but scientifically unclear.

I can’t wait till Spring to get back into my peaceful place— my garden
