JULY 28, 2025 APRICOTS

pricots might just be one of the most powerful fruits you’re not eating. While their popularity in the U.S. has steadily dropped since the 1990s, apricots are loaded with nutrients that can support heart health, brain function, digestion, and much more.

They also belong to the Rosaceae family, which includes many other edible fruits and nuts, such as cherries, peaches, plums, and almonds Thet are certainly different than their cousin fruits- plum , peaches and cherries. I would eat a plum or peach- rather than an apricot. It also provides 18% of the recommended daily intake of vitamins A and C (based on a 2,000 calorie per day diet), and is a good source of several B vitamins. When it comes to minerals, apricots are not slouches. Theyʼre good sources of potassium, copper, iron, manganese, and magnesium. Apricots contain a lot of beta carotene which gives them its orange color Apricots also deliver lutein and zeaxanthin, antioxidant carotenoids known to benefit eye health.

There are good study on apricots and cancer. A 2005 study found that the pulp of a Japanese apricot variety was able to suppress the growth of several types of cancer in vitro, including that of the stomach, blood, and pancreas. apricot-related health benefits seen in studies, including protecting the brain and heart, fighting against oxidation, boosting the immune system, and lowering high cholesterol.

So there is not reason not to try to eat an apricot. After researching apricots I will add them to my summer fruit list.

JULY 14, 2025 ASHWAGANDHA

In ancient Ayurvedic medicine, ashwagandha is known as the King of Herbs.

Today, it’s one of the most popular adaptogens in the wellness world — and for good reason. It’s been celebrated for its ability to ease stress, improve sleep, boost energy, support brain health, and even help the body fight cancer Ashwagandha is an herb made from the Withania somnifera (meaning “sleep-inducing”) plant, with thousands of years of use in Ayurveda. It’s in the Solanaceae or nightshade family, along with tomatoes, potatoes, and eggplant (and, in the spirit of full disclosure, the extremely toxic belladonna). It’s also known as Indian ginseng or winter cherry Ashwagandha belongs to a category of substances known as adaptogens. There are many adaptogenic herbs. Even Reishi mushroom is considered a secondary adaptogen

A 2019 study randomized 60 “stressed adults” into three groups. They received either 250 or 600 mg of ashwagandha per day for 8 weeks, or a placebo. Compared to the control group, those given the herb reported significant reductions in how stressed they felt. And those perceptions were supported by reductions in their serum levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Both ashwagandha groups also showed significant improvement in sleep quality compared to the placebo group

A more recent study showed benefit. A 2022 meta-analysis of 12 studies that included over 1,000 adults found that ashwagandha seems to lower anxiety and stress when compared to a placebo. Taking up to 12,000 mg (4 teaspoons) per day seemed to be the sweet spot to treat anxiety, while a much smaller dose of 300–600 mg per day was found to help with stress.

This is a herb that every person should take. Those with thyroid disease should consult their health care practitioner first

A healthy amount of vitamins is one of the keys to staying happy and healthy. Humans need certain amounts of each vitamin and each vitamin has its own job to do in your body There are some individuals who take no vitamins and there are some who take too many

You should see a physician that measures levels of vitamins. You should discuss the importance of vitamin D and a methylated B vitamin in your regimen One vitamin everyone should take is Vitamin C

This potent antioxidant contributes to normal collagen formation, bone function, skin, cartilage, blood vessels, teeth, and gum health. Supports the immune and nervous systems and aids metabolism. Unlike most pills and powders, our Liposomal Vitamin C doesn’t cause stomach upset and mixes easily with any drink.

JUY 7, 2025 FLUORIDE

Fluoride is added to most public drinking water in the U.S., and in many parts of Canada and Europe, too. Supporters say it helps prevent cavities and is an essential tool for dental health. But critics say that it can harm your brain, bones, and thyroid, and that it’s especially dangerous for young children.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) considers water fluoridation one of the 10 greatest public health achievements of the 20th century. When fluoridation programs became widespread in the US after 1945, the rates of tooth decay among Americans soon plummeted by about 25%. While it’s clear that fluoride benefits dental health, the chemical doesn’t just end up on your teeth when you drink it; it affects your entire body. And there’s increasing concern about the effects of fluoridation on pregnant women and children. Given the widespread use of fluoride in the water supply (over 70% of US residents receiving public water get fluoridated water),

The 2003 meta-analysis examined 70 studies involving more than 42,000 children, and the 2019 review analyzed data from almost 100 studies involving over 60,000 participants. In both cases, researchers concluded that fluoride toothpastes are significantly more effective in preventing cavities than non-fluoride toothpastes.

A 2013 study examined the impact of fluoridated drinking water on reducing cavities in Australian adults, comparing those born before 1960 (whose water wasn’t fluoridated) with those born between 1960 and 1990 (whose water did contain fluoride). The results showed that individuals with over 75% lifetime exposure to fluoridated water had fewer dental issues, indicating that fluoridated water did reduce cavities

No reputable studies have aimed to determine the effectiveness of water fluoridation for preventing caries in adults.

So it is one of these controversial subjects no one wants to talk about Do your own research and start to process it

JULY 1, 2025 TOP MUSHROOMS

There are many medicinal mushrooms I use many in my practice with patients with a variety of illnesses. The following are the top five I use.,

Reishi

In Chinese medicine, this mushroom is referred to as “Ling zhi,” also known as "The 10,000 year mushroom," or “mushroom of immortality." Reishi touts a list of benefits nearly as long as it has been in use.

Nourishing to the liver and kidneys, supportive of a healthy immune response, healthy circulation, healthy cholesterol, and overall vitality and well being. It is often used to help the body adapt to stress and to nourish the nervous system which promotes healthy sleep  and cognitive function.

Turkey Tail

Turkey tail supports genitourinary tract health, especially in women, as well as immune function. One of the tried and true mushrooms used to support people through chronic conditions.  Turkey Tail has an affinity for the heart health, and regular rhythm.

Shiitake

Shiitake is traditionally used to support liver and immune function. With an overwhelming umami flavor, this mushroom is tried and true in its over all health benefits. From the bodies inflammatory response to the immuno-protective properties, this mushroom is a health power house.

Chaga

What we know as Chaga is technically the Sclerotia of the fungi, and it has a specific relationship with birch trees. This mushroom has become renowned for its use in supporting the innate function of the immune system and assisting the body with oxidative stress.

Maitake

Maitake, which translates to “dancing” mushroom in Japanese, has been used traditionally as an adaptogen tonic. It is well respected for supporting immune system strength, healthy cell growth, and normal blood sugar levels. It also aids female genitourinary wellness.

JUNE 30, 2025 BENEFITS OF COFFEE

What are the connections between caffeine, coffee and eye health? Do the negatives outweigh the positives? This is a tricky question, given the contradictory research on this popular beverage. Coffee is high in antioxidants that have broad health benefits. However, coffee is typically acidic, which can cause stomach symptoms. The caffeine in coffee is a stimulant that increases alertness, but it can also cause energy crashes.

excessive amounts of coffee will agitate the liver yang. Symptoms can include headaches (typically on one side of the head or in or above the eyes), breaking blood vessels on the outside of the eyes (sclera), elevated eye pressure (IOP), red eyes, visual disturbances, ocular migraines, possible changes in eyesight, ringing in the ears, dizziness, dry mouth, heavy feeling, insomnia, and increases in blood pressure. Too much coffee can stimulate internal wind with symptoms that can include the following: pain that moves around, itchy skin conditions, dizziness/vertigo, tremor or spasms, suddenly appearing rashes, sudden onset of headache or migraine with vertigo, or possibly sudden onset of disease.

People who are yang deficient (low in energy and generally cold overall) may find moderate amounts of coffee therapeutic to warm the body and stimulate yang. Excessive amounts can eventually have the opposite effect by depleting the adrenals.

Coffee is warm, sweet, and bitter.

A study found that drinking instant coffee may raise the risk of developing dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD). oOther studies found coffee beneficial for Parksinson’s disease and A;zheimer’s Disease Coffee does contain many antioxidants

If you are afraid to drink coffee due to its ‘ cons’ you can always try dandelion or mushroom based coffee.

JUNE 20, 2025 FOODS THAT INCREASE CHOLESTEROL

We live in a world where we must watch what we eat. Knowing which items are quietly contributing to high cholesterol is a key step in protecting heart health. Cardiovascular Disease is still the number #1 killer among men and women in the United States

Do you start your morning with a cup of coffee with milk and sugar? Or do you have a bacon/sausage/cheese and egg sandwich on a bagel or croissant. Many people start their day with bacon, sausage, or ham without realizing how harmful these  meats can be for their heart. These options are packed with saturated fats and cholesterol, which increase bad cholesterol levels in the blood. Over time, even moderate consumption can push levels beyond what is considered safe

Then there is the dairy problem Many Americans consume too much dairy. Whole milk, cream, butter, and cheese are often found in kitchens across the country, but they carry a hidden risk. These dairy products are loaded with saturated fats that contribute to rising cholesterol levels. While they may add richness to meals, they can also silently damage cardiovascular health over time

We live in a country that is fast paced. There are too many fast food restaurants in towns and cities. Whether it is McDonalds, Sonic, and Chick Filet — it doesn’t matter These are a No no . Fast food is a common go-to for busy schedules, but it is one of the worst offenders for cholesterol. Fried items like chicken sandwiches, French fries, and onion rings are cooked in oils that raise bad cholesterol levels. These foods are not only high in saturated fats but are often prepared using oils

Lastly we are all guilty of having pastries, cakes and cookies, Pastries from the store shelf or bakery case often look harmless, but they are usually filled with unhealthy fats. Muffins, donuts, and croissants contain butter, shortening, or other ingredients that spike cholesterol.

You must try to be heart healthy
