SEPTEMBER 2, 2025 THYROID
Far from being an isolated system, thyroid function is intimately involved in overall wellness, and impairments impact stress resilience, immune response and cardiovascular health. Thyroid disorders range from thyrotoxicosis to thyroid cancer, with the most common being hypothyroidism. Subclinical hypothyroidism is prevalent, affects 3 to 15 percent of adults, mainly women. Symptoms of hypothyroidism are varied and non-specific, with no one symptom definitively predicting the disorder. Because weight gain, fatigue, poor concentration, depression, diffuse muscle pain, menstrual irregularities and constipation are associated with a number of conditions
We have to take care of our thyroid due to the many diseases that affect it and then the whole body. Using only ‘ pink’ salt limits the body from getting iodine. Iodine is important for the thyroid I usually recommend combining all three salts together- pink, real table salt and sea salt. This way you will at least get some iodine when using salt.
If you have an autoimmune condition of the thyroid called Hahsimoto’s thyroiditis you must try to be as gluten free as you can to decrease the thyroid peroxidase antibodies ( TPO) You must also consume one Brazil nut per day for the selenium and lastly seek out a health care practitioner that can prescribe low dose naltrexone. ( LDN)
You must take care of the thyroid due to its cardiovascular risks. Thyroid hormones are engaged in a complex relationship with the cardiovascular system, influencing heart rate, vascular tone, LDL metabolism and blood pressure regulation. Research shows thyroid hormones have direct and serious effects on cardiovascular risk factors, and imbalances are implicated in heart failure, coronary artery disease, stroke and sudden cardiac death.

AUGUST 21, 2025 OSTEOPOROSIS PREVENTION
Recent studies indicate that daily consumption of prunes may help preserve bone density and prevent bone loss, particularly in postmenopausal women.
One study found that eating five or six prunes daily resulted in less bone density loss compared to those who did not consume prunes.
Another study showed that both 50 g and 100 g of prunes per day effectively prevented bone loss in women with osteoporosis.
Additionally, a year-long study demonstrated that daily prune consumption helped preserve total bone mass density at the hip.
Researchers are also exploring how prunes influence gut bacteria, which may contribute to their bone-protective effects.
These findings suggest that incorporating prunes into the diet could be beneficial for maintaining bone health
Jumping exercises can be beneficial for building bone density, especially for individuals with osteopenia or osteoporosis, as impact forces stimulate bone growth. However, the suitability of jumping exercises depends on the individual's bone health status and should be approached cautiously, especially for those with osteoporosis.

AUGUST 20, 2025 GOUT
Gout is a painful form of arthritis that, if left untreated, can lead to other chronic diseases. There are many conventional medications to treat gout GOUT is the most prevalent cause of chronic inflammatory arthritis in the United States. Globally, about 1–4% of people suffer from gout. So it is fairly common to see in my medical practice Historically it was a Disease of Kings- as Henry VIII had gout. It could afford the rich foods and large amounts of alcohol.
Gout develops from deposits of needle-shaped crystals in and around the joint. The crystals are made of monosodium urate (MSU), which form when the uric acids in blood rise above normal thresholds. Uric acid comes from urate, which comes from molecules called purines Gout is much more common in men than in women. In industrialized countries, it occurs in 3–6% of men and 1–2% of women. And women are usually not at risk for gout attacks until after menopause, as estrogen helps flush out excess uric acid
However, while pharmaceutical treatments may be helpful in some cases, the best gout treatment is prevention. This means to eat better and drink less alcohol
In the long term, the goal is to reduce serum urate levels Following a strict low-purine diet will lower uric acid levels by at most 30% There is some genetic predisposition in a small percentage of individuals The DASH diet, for example, has been shown to lower serum uric acid compared to a standard Western diet Aplant based diet may also help reduce goiut. It’s likely that the fiber and vitamins delivered by a health-promoting plant-based diet support overall health and help the body manage uric acid levels more effectively. A 2019 study found that increasing vegetable consumption may help reduce the risk of developing gout. Some nuts and seeds may lower gout risk by reducing uric acid levels. In a 2021 study, researchers found that eating more pine nuts and walnuts was linked to a lower risk of hyperuricemia in young adults
I encourage tart cherry juice consumption as there are some studies to reduce gout attacks. Vitamin C acts as a powerful antioxidant, which can help reduce oxidative stress and inflammation associated with gout.
Lifestyle changes such as maintaining a healthy weight, staying hydrated, managing stress, and quitting smoking support gout prevention You can also find gout friendly recipes on line
You don’t have to suffer with gout and you don’t have to take medications for life
