DECEMBER 6, 2018 ROMANCING KILLING FOODS

This is an important topic for many individuals. We know the herb enhancing aphrodisiacs and you cant forget the good properties of oysters.

Yet you must not forget that eating unhealthy will lower libido.

If you want to have a romantic night you must think to avoid the following

  1. Avoid sugar is the most critical. Besides constricting your blood vessels, feeding cancers, and increasing your weight ( and link to diabetes) it decreases testosterone levels

  2. Avoid any artificial sweeteners as they are linked to cancers. These also decrease serotonin levels

  3. Avoid dairy products especially if hormones were used

  4. Avoid deli meat wrapped in plastic as the PBC can mimic estrogens and decrease testosterone

  5. Avoid peppermint and mint as they have been linked to decrease testosterone levels

  6. Microwave popcorn contains a hormone disrupter called PFOA which can mess with hormones No whip cream and now no Popcorn !

DECEMBER 5, 2018 LOWER BLOOD PRESSURE NATURALLY

As a cardiologist I am always discussing natural ways to lower your cardiovascular risk. We do know that pore hypertensive in younger years will lead to problems later in life. This was proven in a 25 year study , the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adult.

Hypertension, or high blood pressure is the silent killer. There are several natural ways to lower blood pressure. Most of these you might know but it never hurts to read them again

  1. Eat a healthy diet- low in saturated fat, trans fats and sodium

  2. Exercise daily . This could be as low as a 10 minute/day

  3. Take omega 3 fatty acids - up to least 2,000/ day

  4. Take one coenzyme Q10 /day

  5. Manage stress by doing yoga, practice meditation, or Tai Chi

  6. Go to Hobby Lobby or Michaels and find a hobby you want to try and never did. For example learn knitting, paint by numbers, stamping, candle making, or even needlepoint

  7. Consider drinking either beet juice or take aged garlic

DECEMBER 4, 2018 LICKING A TOILET SEAT

The mere thought of this sickens you. It did the same to me. A study was done on the bacteria after one week of using your water bottle. The results were horrific in regards to the number of bacteria found. There were four types of bottles used; slide top, screw top, squeeze top and straw top.

It did matter which top was used The average of the number of bacteria was greater than 300,000 colony forming units. It was stated that the number of bacteria is 6 x more than your own pet’s food bowl. It was higher than the number of bacteria found around your toilet bowl. This is a sickening thought but TRUE

For those that are interested:: The slide top bottle top had the highest number of bacteria : 933, 340 CFU versus the straw top that had only 25 CFU. Squeeze top was the second highest bacteria count leaving the screw top in the third position

Now you can think twice before buying your water bottle

DECEMBER 3, 2018 CHOICE

“ Choice is our greatest power, more powerful than love.”

I have been thinking about this quote all weekend. How we choose to love is a hard question for me. It does make me think. This question and answer can tell a lot about your self. It allows more self examination. It has helped me tremendously .

The art of giving to one self is the best remedy to answer this question. By improving your relationship with one self, it can allow you to improve your relationships with others. Listen to others for some of these people can be your greatest teachers. I have learned to engage only after listening. The last three years have been a large reflection on my life- the good and the bad points. I have chosen to listen to others without speaking. I tend to talk too much . This is a great lesson for me

While doing all this I help myself and others cut out the bad habits in life. We all have bad habits. What are your bad habits? I do not let negative thoughts float in my mind or stay too long. I do not react TO EVERYTHNG that comes up. I sit with it, ponder it, maybe answer it, or just simply meditate on it

DECEMBER 1, 2018 NEROLI OIL

I have often wondered why orange blossom is called neroli. It was thought that the oil was named after the 16th century Princess of Nerola in Italy. It has been said that the princess used this oil frequently on her clothes to scent them.

Neroli makes a wonderful facial oil and massage blend. It regenerates skin cells and I highly recommend it. It also is used to relive the body of tension or nervousness and insomnia. This oil has a calming effect. It has also been said to have an aphrodisiac property

I would encourage you to find this oil and start to use it. I have used it in a diffuser with great calming effects

NOVEMBER 30, 2018 NIACIN

The daily requirement is about 20 mg from the diet and synthesis from tryptophan in the body. A deficiency of this vitamin results in pellagra. There are such communities which eat only corn or maize which is deficient in tryptophan therefore this community could be suspectible to pellagra

Pellagra should not be missed as this rash is symmetrical. There is a sign which is known to be caused by niacin deficiency It is called Casal’s necklace . This is a broad band collar of dermatosis right around the neck and can extend downwards.

The dermatosis of pellagra is classic ( usually the back of the hands and fingers are affected.)

NOVEMBER 29, 2018 VASOACTIVE INTESTINAL PEPTIDE

There is a compound I have been using for patients with fatigue and chronic fatigue due to Epstein Barr virus, Lyme and or mold. It is called the Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide ( VIP) This is a 28 amino acid neuropeptide that belongs to the glucagon growth hormone- releasing factor secretion superfamily. I usually do not think of it when I first meet the patient. I need to balance other endocrine organs as the thyroid and the adrenals. I first balance the gut as I do with all illnesses.

VIP has anti inflammatory as well as has immunomodulating effects

VIP is rapidly transformed into something than a mere hormone. It evolves to modify one’s immune system and immune function VIP plays an important role in the cell’s response

NOVEMBER 28, 2018 CANCER SCREENING TESTS

THE WORD ‘ CANCER’ STRIKES FEAR IN ONE’S VOCABULARY. The last great Neil Simon stated this in “ Lost in Yonkers’ when discussing an aunt’s diagnosis. It was whispered.

YOU can do something about it. Change your dietary and exercise lifestyle. What are you eating and drinking? HAVE YOU GONE FOR YOUR SCREENING ?

There is screening for at least five major cancers. These are the following

1. Breast Cancer - discuss mammography, ultrasound, genetic testing and even thermography with your physician

2. Colorectal Cancer- are you over 50. You need a colonoscopy

3. Prostate Cancer - all men over the age 50 need a digital rectal exam by their physician. For higher risk patients it might be sooner. From personal experience— this is important

4. Cervical Cancer- recommendation state from age 21 through 65 there is need for a pap smear. You should get testing for HPV and go for your regular check up

5. Lung Cancer - for every smoker, one CXR is needed to view what is normal for you. This is especially for 30 pack years of smoking
