JUNE 24, 2019 SASSAFRAS

You cannot miss this tree when you see its large leaves., Sassafras also known as Sassafras albidum is a deciduous tree form North America. There are many uses for this plant . It is used as a tea, traditional root beer and seasoning spice in many Native American or Creole cuisine.

Unfortunately Sassafras is no longer considered safe for human consumption, especially when safrole oil is included. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration currently prohibits sassafras bark, oil, and safrole as flavorings or food additives. The FDA banned sassafras use in 1979 following research that showed it caused cancer in rats

Different parts of the sassafras plant (including the leaves and stems, the bark, and the roots) have been used to treat kidney problems, menstrual disorders, toothaches, rheumatism and even sexually transmitted diseases. It also has anti fungal properties.

JUNE 20, 2019 SO YOU NEED FIBER ?

There are vegetables that are loaded with fiber. One of these is broccoli. Broccoli is a superfood that is loaded in fiber. Since fiber is not digestible, it can’t be stored as fat in the body. The body burns calories while trying to break down fibre and then eventually removes it through waste. Broccoli is also a potent detoxifier and helps keep the digestive system healthy, strong and regular.

Another vegetable that has fiber is kale. Kale is a leafy green that is an antioxidant powerhouse. Kale is loaded in fiber which helps burn calories, makes the stomach feel full, removes excess waste and keeps the body regular. The problem with kale recently is that it has been added to the Dirty Dozen food list. Often touted for being highly nutritious, kale has joined the list of 11 other fruits and vegetables known to be “dirty,” according to an analysis by the Environmental Working Group.

Both of these have a lot of B12 and folate which is essential to the body’s needs to detoxify.

JUNE 19, 2019 GOOD FOODS

I like fish. I consume a lot of fish in a week I order it from www.vitalchocie.com I love salmon. Wild salmon is a great source of omega-3 fatty acids and is a lean protein. According to The Calorie Myth, it takes the body five to ten times more energy to digest proteins than carbs. About 30 per cent of calories we eat from protein are actually burned in digesting it.

I used to eat chicken, but it must be organic chicken Eating leaner cuts of chicken, like chicken breasts, helps the body burn calories. Surprisingly, it takes a lot of energy to digest chicken. Similar to wild salmon, we burn calories as we eat foods that require more energy to break them down.

So could I be a vegetarian or vegan I was a vegetarian during my college years. At that time I ate pasta ( which I rarely eat today unless gluten free from good companies ) I do recommend some individuals look at Eat Right for Your Blood Type by friend/colleague/writer Dr Peter D’Adamo.

JUNE 18, 2019 MENSTRUAL CRAMPS

Many women complain of menstrual cramps and increased bleeding This is not my field but I am always looking for a new botanical that might help Recently published in the American Botanical Council HerbalGram was an article , Re: Cinnamon Supplementation Lessens the Severity of Menstrual Pain

Jahangirifar M, Taebi M, Dolatian M. The effect of cinnamon on primary dysmenorrhea: A randomized, double-blind clinical trial. Complement Ther Clin Pract. November 2018;33:56-60. doi: 10.1016/j.ctcp.2018.08.001.

Primary dysmenorrhea, or menstrual pain, can disrupt a woman's daily activities. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are used to control the symptoms of dysmenorrhea; however, they can produce adverse effects when used over a long period of time. Several medicinal plants have been shown to benefit dysmenorrhea. Cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum, Lauraceae) bark, which has antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties, is used to treat indigestion, abdominal cramps, intestinal spasms, and nausea, among other issues. These authors conducted a double-blind, randomized, clinical trial to investigate the effects of cinnamon on primary dysmenorrhea.

Concluding that cinnamon significantly reduced the severity of menstrual pain, the authors recommend the use of cinnamon in women with primary dysmenorrhea. They note that studies directly comparing cinnamon to drugs used for dysmenorrhea would also be of interest.

JUNE 17, 2019 WHY FASTING ?

There are many individuals who fast. There are benefits to fasting You should consult your health care practitioner if fasting is safe for you

1. When you fast, insulin levels drop and human growth hormone increases. Your cells also initiate important cellular repair processes and change which genes they express.

2. Intermittent fasting helps you eat fewer calories, while boosting metabolism slightly. It is a very effective tool to lose belly fat.

3. Fasting triggers a metabolic pathway called autophagy, which removes waste material from cells.

4. Intermittent fasting may have important benefits for brain health. It may increase growth of new neurons and protect the brain from damage.

5. One of the most exciting applications of intermittent fasting may be its ability to extend lifespan. Studies in rats have shown that intermittent fasting extends lifespan in a similar way as continuous calorie restriction.

JUNE 14, 2019 OUCH !!! THAT BEE STUNG HURT

When people hear I raise bees they always ask do I harvest or get the honey. Of course the answer is yes. I do not sell my honey as I am not registered to do so. I give the honey away and piece of comb with the honey. I tell patients I do Bee Stony Therapy and sting people on purpose. Many people laugh, and chuckle stating “ Why would anyone want to get stung “ The answer is simple. It is beneficial for many diseases. This is known, well researched and written about. The Bible of Been Venom Therapy was written by a NYC based physician named Bodog Beck MD. It is an excellent book to read if you want to know about BVT. He used it for autoimmune disease as rheumatoid arthritis and pain syndromes. There are different types of stings. I have heard it explained different ways by different apitherapists.

I usually do a full sting method and with having small talk with the patient begin to sting an area. The sting is of full intensity and does hurt It is of extreme benefit . I do take the stinger out if a new patient. I probably like to get stung about 8 times a day and leave the stingers in place. I do it for back pain and for longevity.

Some apitherapists remove the stinger from the bee and tap the stinger genty into areas to be stung. This has been used in Japan for centuries . It is called HoShinDo. I have seen it used . I have not perfected this method but do try it on some occasions .

JUNE 13, 2019 WILD LETTUCE

This plant is also known as opium lettuce due to its pain relieving and sedative effects. It acts directly on the central nervous system to lessen the feeling of pain. I’ve found that its sap is so effective that you can numb even the greatest of pains. As opioids are becoming harder to obtain, wild lettuce seems like the best alternative to powerful commercial painkillers. Best of all, it’s not addictive and has no side effects.

The plant’s sap can also be applied to the skin as a treatment for warts. Cover the wart with sap once or twice a day until the wart is gone.
